Euromed Postal...le retour

"Euromed Postal" French stamp is back...

In a previous post published on this blog, I mentioned the report by the French Post of the issue of the stamp (initialy scheduled on May 25, 2009) devoted to the 2nd Euromed Postal Conference which had to be held in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Egyptian Post had indeed proposed to member countries of the Euromed (the 27 countries of the EU + 12 countries around the Mediterranean) to postpone this conference due to both the financial crisis and H1N1 influenza epidemic risks...
It seems that this Conference finally took place on 14 and 15 October, 2009.
The French Post had then already printed 3 million copies of this stamp. It took advantage of the "Autumn Stamp Exhibition" held in Paris last weekend to issue this stamp, with a FDC cancellation of November 7, 2009... better late than never !

This conference aimed to strengthen cooperation between the different postal operators as part of the Euromed Partnership (or Barcelona Process, established in 1995), in particular about the improving of the delivery of letters and parcels, the modernization of production equipments or the training of agents.
This engraved stamp above (that will not go down in history...) evokes the Mediterranean basin, olive branches and rays of light coming from the city of Alexandria (referring probably to its lighthouse). The logo of this conference, probably inspired by the god Horus in Egyptian mythology, is depicted on the stamp but also on the FDC postmark above.
It's worth noting also the mention of this Euromed Postal in Arabic characters on this cancellation, is this the first time ?
