Timbre EUROPA 2011 d'Allemagne

EUROPA 2011 stamp from Germany

A short post to share with you this nice illustrated envelope mailed on May 5, 2011 from the German city of Essen (with an interesting FDC postmark).
Thank you very much Igor :-)

This letter is franked with the EUROPA stamp issued on May 5, 2011 by the Deutsche Post, curiously including a nominal value of € 0.55, the domestic rate (letter up to 20g) rather than a more appropiate European rate...
Igor has completed his postage with a € 0.20 stamp (issued on July 7, 2005), part of the "Flowers" definitive series, a marigold here.

To celebrate the International Year of Forests, the European postal organization PostEurop has wisely chosen the theme of forests ("wald" in German) for the EUROPA stamps issued in 2011.
And I've to say that this topic has fairly inspired the European postal administrations, including Germany with this stamp above, designed by Hans Peter Hoch and Andreas Hoch.
This stamp, including the new EUROPA logo, evokes the meeting of a forest (through these trunks) with light.
It also helps raise awareness of the risks of uncontrolled deforestation, concerning Germany with areas covered by forests that has declined considerably (only one third of the country's surface today).
