150 ans de l'église presbytérienne de Rio - Premier Jour

150 years of Rio's Presbyterian Church - FDC

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the construction of the Presbyterian Church of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Post has issued on January 12, 2012, an interesting stamp (R$ 1.60) designed by Juliana Souza.
It is that stamp that appears on the First Day souvenir below (with FDC postmarks from Rio), mailed on January 26, 2012 from Sao Paulo. Thank you very much Marcelo :-)
This stamp depicts the facade of this Church with an architecture inspired by St. Pierre Cathedral in Geneva, the city of Calvin.

The presence of the first Reformed christians (called Calvinists) in Brazil dates from 1555 with the arrival of the Huguenots, Protestants coming from France.
Protestantism is now the second religion in Brazil (after Catholicism) with nearly 28 million faithful.
To speak again about this stamp, it's worth noting the top part evoking the largest stained glass window (a rose window) of this Presbyterian Church. The technique of holography has been used to reproduce this window including the words "Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path" taken from the Bible (Psalms 119:105).
