Pli 1er Jour "Gardens by the Bay" à Singapour

"Gardens by the Bay" FDC in Singapore

To celebrate the opening in June 2012 (after 5 years of work) of a new extraordinary site in Singapore, "Gardens by the Bay", the SingPost has issued, on June 28, 2012, two just as extraordinary stamps !
Extraordinary by their designs (by Eng Siak Loy) but also by their size (120 mm x 40 mm).
I was lucky enough to receive the official FDC below devoted to this set. Thank you very much Terence :-)
To note that these two stamps are not the biggest (in surface) issued by the Singapore Post since an even larger stamp (98 mm x 67 mm) was issued on September 13, 2006, devoted to the International visual art biennial...
Graphic artist Eng Siak Loy, designer of the year in 2007, had already designed (among others) the series issued in 2009 devoted to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
To note that the FDC cancellation below shows the logo of "Gardens by the Bay", featuring a dragonfly.

To give you an example in reference, these two stamps have approximately the size of the "Blue Whale" stamp (128 mm x 49 mm) issued in Canada in 2010.
But let's speak about this crazy "Gardens by the Bay" project which allows Singapore to increase even further its reputation of "garden city" initiated in 1963 with a wide tree planting campaign.
Located near the "Marina Bay Sand" complex, "Gardens by the Bay" consists of a large green area divided into three parts : two outdoor gardens and a garden inside a glass house (on a total area of 101 hectares).
It is that glass dome, designed by a team of British architects, home to plant species from Mediterranean and tropical regions, that is depicted on the stamp at the top on the FDC above.
The other stamp refers to Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes, one of the seven main attractions of this garden. The kingfisher depicted on that stamp, a Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) was already featured on one of the stamps of the definitive "Pond Life" series issued in 2011 in Singapore...
