Diplomatie du Panda à Singapour...

Panda Diplomacy in Singapore...

I'd already mentioned on this blog in 2008 the "Panda Diplomacy", this practice used by the People's Republic of China of offering or lending Giant Pandas to other countries in order to strengthen diplomatic relations...
The Post of Taiwan had thus issued stamps in 2008 to celebrate the arrival of the two Pandas Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan on its soil.
Two Giant Pandas, Huan Huan and Yuan Zi have been loaned for a period of 10 years by China to France in early 2012 (a first since 1973 !) and were officially presented to the public on June 2, 2012 at the ZooParc of Beauval. The French Post had not issued official stamp about the arrival of these Pandas even if a special postmark and a personalized stamp were issued in Beauval at this occasion...

Merci beaucoup Terence :-)
China and Singapore have commemorated in 2010 the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It was then decided the loan of a pair of Giant Pandas, Kai Kai and Jia Jia, to Singapore from 2012, also for a period of 10 years.
Singapore is thus the 9th country to receive Giant Pandas from China since 1994.
The Post of Singapore has not missed this event by issuing, on September 6th 2012, a series of three stamps (50c, 65c and $ 2.00) devoted to the arrival of these two Pandas. This series, designed by Edmund Chen, appears on the beautiful official FDC above. Thank you so much Terence :-)

The objective of this operation is also to promote Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) conservation and raise public awareness on this critically endangered species (the last representatives in the wild live today in the Chinese Provinces of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi).
As for the pair of giant pandas arrived in France this year, the aim is also to contribute to the population of Giant Pandas born in captivity.
After a period of acclimatization in Singapore, these two Pandas will be presented to the public in the next "River Safari" Park, that will be the only Park (12 hectares) in Asia devoted to wild flora and fauna, growing specificly in river's zones (Yang Tse, Amazon, Nile, Mekong...).

On September 6th 2012, the SingPost has also issued a prepaid envelope (the two sides are shown above) that Terence was kind enough to send me :-)
This envelope (Permanent "1st Local" up to 20g postal rate, i.e. 26c currently) is sold in packs of 10 at a price of $ 3.50.
To note the FDC cancellation accompanying the issue of this envelope (different from the one devoted to the three stamps), featuring bamboo, Panda's main diet.
I really like the drawing above showing the two pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia eating bamboo (with a reference to the "River Safari" Park at the top)...
Finally, to note that the 50c stamp (Kai Kai) was also issued in booklets of 10 self-adhesive stamps (one of these stamps was used by Terence on the envelope above) as well as a souvenir sheet consisting of one $ 10.00 stamp (same design as the $ 2.00 stamp featuring the two pandas).
