Émission commune Chine/Suède - Ping Pong

China/Sweden joint stamp issue - Ping Pong

After 1997, the two postal administrations of Sweden and China have issued this year a new set of joint stamps, this time devoted to a very popular sport in the two countries, table tennis (or ping pong).
The Chinese version of this joint issue (2 stamps, 1.20 yuan each), designed by Yu Xue, appears in two copies on the first day cover (print run : 200,000) of September 27, 2013 below, with three different postmarks from the city of Shenzhen. Thank you very much Kun :-)
To note that a special varnish was applied on the two players featured on these two stamps...
The stamp with a blue background depicts the Swedish player Jan-Ove Waldner (forehand service), one of the most famous foreign athletes in China, six-time world champion from 1989 to 2000 (2 times in single event) and Olympic champion in Barcelona in 1992.

The issue of this stamp is historic because China Post is practically never issuing stamps devoted to living persons, to foreign people a fortiori...
Waldner would be the third still living foreign, after Lenin and Marx, to appear on a Chinese stamp !
To note that the Swedish player was in Beijing at the "China International Collection Expo", from 26 to 29 September 2013, when this series was issued in preview sale.
The Swedish Post had issued a special souvenir sheet at this occasion (bearing the flags of the two countries) in a very limited edition, different from the final version.
Not much was said about the second stamp in this series featuring a Chinese player... it seems that this stamp was designed from a photograph of Deng Yaping, one of the greatest players in the history of this sport (6-time world champion and 4-time Olympic champion between 1989 and 1997).
Kun has used above a fifth stamp to the left, being part of a set of six stamps issued on May 19, 2013, entitled "Beautiful China". That stamp is devoted to the Panjin Red Beach, a huge wetland area located in the northeast of China, having for particularity the red algae that growing and coloring all that place...
