Pièces anciennes sur timbres de Macédoine

Old coins on stamps from Macedonia

On March 1, 2002, the postal administration of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has issued a series of 4 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet dedicated to the country's cultural heritage and in particular to ancient coins.
Two of these stamps were used to frank the postcard below posted on October 8, 2013 in Skopje, the capital of the country. Thank you very much Ana and Tolga :-)
These two stamps are depicting a gold stater dating from the 4th century BC (36 Denars) including a profile of King Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, or Alexander III of Macedon, whose profile appears on the silver tetradrachm also dating from the 4th century BC (12 Denars).

This same Alexander the Great is featured on this monumental bronze statue (which is also a fountain) erected in 2011 on Macedonia Square in Skopje.
It is a view of this Macedonia Square that is shown on the other side of this nice postcard below.
This monument was finally renamed "the warrior on a horse statue" following a cultural and historical conflict with neighboring Greece...

As a reminder, this statue was featured on one of the stamps of the EUROPA series issued in 2012 by the Macedonian Post...
