Republic of Korea-France joint stamp issue : 130 years of diplomatic ties

After years of tensions, particularly concerning the French Catholic missionaries arrived from 1836, and an armed conflict in 1866, a treaty of friendship and commerce was signed in 1886 between Korea and France, marking the official beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This treaty was then part of the many treaties considered as "unequal" signed in the 19th century, as imposed by the colonizing Western powers in the region...
After an interruption of these relations between 1906 and 1949 after Japanese invasion, France and the Republic of Korea renewed contacts, considered as "excellent" today, especially in the economic, cultural, research or education fields.

To commemorate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations, the postal administrations of South Korea and France have put into circulation on June 3, 2016, a joint set consisting of two stamps devoted to the theme of art crafts, ceramics for Korea and goldsmithing for France.
To note that this joint series (a first between the two countries) was also issued as part of the France-Korea Year 2015-2016.
A big thank you Ji-Ho for these two letters above and below with FDC cancellations from Nambusan, regarding the Korean version of this series !
Korea Post has released these 2 stamps (300 won, print run : 700,002) in a same sheet consisting of 18 stamps, including 2 stamps in a central band, separated by a coupon including the flags of the two countries and the mention of this 130th anniversary (see above).

To note that the Korean President Park Geun-hye, made a state visit to France from 1 to 4 June 2016 to mark this anniversary and strengthen ties between the two countries.
Another interesting fact : Korea Post has released two different FDC cancellations about these two stamps : a Celadon openwork incense burner dating from the 12th century (Goryeo Dynasty), National Treasure No. 95, exhibited in the National Museum of Korea in Seoul and a reliquary of Pepin I (elements from the 9th to the 11th century) being part of the treasure of the Abbey Church of Saint Foy in Conques (Aveyron).
This splendid Korean celadon has already been featured on Korean stamps in the past, especially on a definitive stamp issued in 1983.

The preview sale of the two French stamps (€ 0.80 and € 1.25, print run : 1,000,320 each) took place in Paris ("Carré d'Encre") but also in Conques where a the same FDC postmark was offered to the public (see cover above). Thank you very much Roland !
This reliquary of "Pepin" (Pepin I of Aquitaine) is one of the oldest pieces of jewelry in France and Europe, house-shaped and designed from wood covered with gold, enamel, gems or precious stones.
That stamp was designed by Elsa Catelin (France), the other one having been created by Kim Sojeong (Korea).
